Amey is a leading public services provider, managing vital infrastructure and business services

Amey is leading the management of the Highways Agency’s Area 9 contract as the managing agent contractor (MAC). The role of the MAC is to carry out operational and routine maintenance services and deliver improvements on the motorways and trunk roads in the West Midlands. Amey will also undertake the role of West Midlands TechMAC, which includes improving the technology systems and equipment on the roads and motorways across the region.

Additionally, Amey has just started work on its £2.7bn Birmingham highways project which will create 300 local jobs over the next year. The job - the UK’s largest ever PFI project - will see Amey upgrade and maintain the city’s infrastructure network for the next 25 years. It won the contract from Birmingham City Council and some 250 council employees will transfer to Amey to work on the project.

Birmingham-based Andy Milner has more than 20 years industry experience and joined Amey in February 2006. He is currently MD of Consulting and is heading up the International Design Hub which opened in Birmingham in November 2009.

The key advantages to operating the business in Birmingham include its excellent transport links, such as rail, road and air; and a fantastic talent pool. Additionally, the city’s long-term inward investment has created great local infrastructure. Birmingham has radically transformed over the past 15 years and I really enjoy working and living in the city. Birmingham really is business-friendly for those considering relocating or expanding a business in the city. It has some great office space available and excellent transport links which are continuing to receive investment (Birmingham New Street station and Birmingham International Airport allows easy access to anywhere in the UK and overseas). The city has some really exciting plans for the future and with further inward investment I believe Birmingham will continue to grow."
