West Midlands Regional Observatory

The West Midlands Regional Observatory provides a complete single point of access to data, information and intelligence about the West Midlands region. The site has been the source of research, facts and figures about the West Midlands since 2002.

In April 2011 ownership of the West Midlands Regional Observatory was transferred to Marketing Birmingham following an open bidding process.  Read the full press release on the transfer for more details.

The site offers hard facts and an objective assessment of what those facts tell us, helping decision makers take tough policy decisions with a sense of confidence about the future. Better evidence will lead to better policy, strategy and funding in the West Midlands, so that services and ultimately people's lives are improved.

• Informing Local Enterprise Partnerships - providing expertise and support to help ensure LEP decisions are guided by an objective analysis of the facts.
• Monitoring progress - reporting on the State of the West Midlands and support partners in meeting their data and intelligence needs. 
• People and networks - coordinate community of networking and data groups. Each group focuses on a particular theme, with members drawn from different sectors.

The Observatory carry out research for a range of partners in the West Midlands. Areas of expertise include skills, economic inclusion, low carbon, enterprise and innovation, culture, policy assessment modelling and defining functioning economic areas:
