Birmingham Infrastructure | Big City Plan

Birmingham is a large place with a dense population. As a forward-thinking city, it already boasts an extensive, advanced transport and communications network. But we’re always thinking bigger and better. The latest chapter in our evolution is the Big City Plan, which is set to propel Birmingham into a new era of connectivity.

Future Developments

Birmingham’s Big City Plan is a multi-million regeneration and development project that will see improved connectivity and accessibility within the city centre as specific districts are cultivated and developed to provide the best services for citizens.

High Speed Rail

Birmingham is pioneering the high speed rail revolution with construction of the London to Birmingham rail link due to start in 2017, taking approximately 8 years to complete.

New Street Station

New Street Station is currently undergoing a massive transformation. This scheme will completely redevelop the station and surrounding land, transforming it into an internationally renowned and used space.

Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport currently serves over 9.1 million passengers per year. The airport has plans for development underway which will see a growth of 14,000 jobs in the region.

Library of Birmingham

The new £189 million Library of Birmingham will occupy a prime site on Centenary Square between the Birmingham Repertory Theatre (The REP) and Baskerville House and is a major flagship for the regeneration of the city which will create 250 new jobs including 25 apprenticeships.
