Another 5G mast for Wolverhampton
City of Wolverhampton Council’s digital innovation councillor champion has been out and about to see the work taking place to make the city a 5G pioneer.
Cllr Beverley Momenabadi today (TUES AUG 6) visited Arthur Greenwood Court in the Ettingshall area of the city to witness the upgrade of infrastructure to enable 5G technology.
The site visit included discussions with West Midlands 5G (WM5G) and ARCC Communications to understand more about the roll out of digital infrastructure.
The first 5G sites have gone live in Wolverhampton over the last few months thanks the work of the City of Wolverhampton Council, working in partnership with WM5G.
As a result of identifying and proactively addressing key obstacles that were blocking the roll-out of 5G sites, the Council has secured the support of multiple mobile operators to launch 5G ahead of schedule.
This makes Wolverhampton one of the first cities in the UK to launch 5G – alongside Birmingham – opening up opportunities for people across the city to start to benefit from this new technology as the networks extend further in the coming months and years.
Cllr Momenabadi said:
“We’re committed to making Wolverhampton a leading city for UK connectivity and innovation. Wolverhampton is delighted to be one of the first cities in the UK to launch 5G – thanks to the pioneering efforts of the council, supported by mobile operators and WM5G.”
City of Wolverhampton Council is eager to futureproof its digital infrastructure to maximise businesses and investment opportunities and make the city a more attractive place to work, live and visit. City of Wolverhampton residents and businesses are being invited to have their say on the city’s Digital Infrastructure Strategy. The strategy outlines the key actions necessary to support the rollout of digital infrastructure, including full fibre and 5G.
