Aston launches latest cutting-edge research institute

  • Aston Institute of Materials Research brings together range of academic expertise
  • Leading figures from industry and business given chance to find out about expertise
  • New institute seeks opportunities to collaborate to maximise research impact

Aston University’s latest research institute encompasses a broad range of academic expertise, from mathematicians and modellers to polymer scientists; chemists and biologists to mechanical engineers and materials scientists.

The Aston Institute of Materials Research (AIMR), which is based on the Aston University campus, undertakes cutting-edge multi-disciplinary materials-based research with real impact.

The institute works across disciplines and institutions as well as collaborating with industry on a variety of exciting research areas.

Paul Topham, Director of AIMR, said:

“Aston strives to collaborate with local and national industry, businesses, other universities and stakeholders of all sizes, so as to maximise the impact of our research. We are very keen to share our expertise and interests in materials science and engineering with external partners and to explore ways in which we can work together for mutual benefit.”

The institute launched internally earlier this year and was officially launched in June with a celebratory event for the external community in June.
