Birmingham’s Yamination Studios bring to life Citv’s Share a Story 5-6 year old category winner Maisie Rymer’s “My Daddy’s Stinky Dancing Pants” from Sutton Coldfield
Being shown on Citv all this week – 23rd to 27th October 2017.
Now in it’s 8th year, Citv’s Bafta award wining Share a Story is a creative writing and drawing competition which gives kids a chance to let their imagination loose.
After a week of intense voting and with over 4000 votes cast, Citv revealed which stories were to be made into animations and broadcast on Citv, with Yamination Studios turning one of those stories into a Stop Motion Animation.
This year Citv were delighted to announce, Children’s Author and Poet, Michael Rosen, was the Share a Story ambassador.
“Share a Story is a fantastic chance to come up with a story and see it turned into an animation. What a treat! Imagine your words, your ideas, your story, on TV as an animated film. Something very, very special.”
– Michael Rosen, Share a Story Ambassador
Winners were given the fantastic opportunity to work with Michael to develop their stories in a special writing workshop in Manchester and then 4 studios, two of them being Birmingham based, the Character Shop and Yamination Studios turned the four winners stories into animations which are being aired this week on CITV.
My Daddy’s Stinky Dancing Pants was this years winning story in the age five to six category, which has been created from the imagination of six-year-old Maisie Rymer (now seven) from Sutton Coldfield, who shares her rather humorous and rhyming story of a Daddy who dances around in his stinky dancing pants. It pictures embarrassing visions of a dad, who wears nothing more than his stinky pants, that loves to dance, be it disco, or the irish jig, daddy will dance, and in his pants. The 60 second story has been beautifully crafted using stop-motion animation to help tell the tale of the wobbly dancing daddy, by none other than Birmingham’s very own Yamination Studios, directed by Drew Roper. There’s been quite a lot of fun dancing about The Midlands recently it seems. It’s a real laugh out loud, silly and rather true, story for all the family to enjoy.
Claire Rymer, Maise’s mum said
“Maisie is one of triplets and has had a challenging time transitioning to school and being in a class without her brothers. Share a story has been a fantastic chance for Maisie to showcase her individuality and her confidence has grown throughout the process. To see Maisie shine has been amazing, I am so thrilled that her great sense of fun and cheekiness has been captured in this animation, happiness oozes out of her story, such a proud and blessed mummy. This animation showcases Maisie beautifully. The team that worked with her were just fantastic at recognising what Maisie is like and they really did charm the very best of Maisie out of Maisie and for that I will be forever grateful.”
Maisie also got to work with, West Midlands based Voice Over Actor, Marc Silk, to create the voices for her characters. AND If that wasn’t enough having her story turned into an animation, the winners, their families and animation studios were just celebrating the finished Share a Stories at a special premiere event in Manchester at Vue Cinema on Saturday just gone. Where they got to see their stories on the big screen for the first time before being broadcast.
Maisie’s thoughts on the animation Yamination Studios created for her,
“It was fabulous being animated, I laughed so much I couldn’t stop giggling. Daddy looks so funny. It was so funny seeing myself. Loved daddy’s big tummy and wiggly bottom!”
Mum after the premiere was thrilled and said,
“Wow, wow, wow, seeing Maisie’s work brought to life was just amazing. Drew and his crew have done the most fantastic job and my husband and I laughed till we cried, the tears were full of emotion too. We are so proud of Maisie and will forever be grateful for the amazing work of Drew at Yamination studios.”
Daddy, Darren Rymer who the animation is based on, said,
“It’s been such an exciting experience, the finished product is so impressive. I have to say, I don’t think the school run will ever be the same again! My gymnastic abilities are better in animation than real life.”
To catch My Daddy’s Stinky Dancing Pants on TV head to the Citv channel as there is still a few days left to watch the Share a Story Maisie wrote and Yamination Studios created. (see timings below)
“What an incredible honour it’s been to work alongside Citv on this years prestigious Share A Story campaign. To have been given the chance to work on such a frivolous and outrageously funny project for all at the studio has been a real breath of fresh air, and trust me when I say, we’ve needed it (when we’ve been around stinky pants all day).
Maisie’s imagination – along with all of the other winners – has been truly inspiring. What an amazing future we have in store should she continue to tickle our tummies with such imaginative stories…We just hope everyone enjoys the fun filled and energetic short and not think that it’s pants, pun intended.” Drew Roper Director of Yamination Studios.
