Breaking Free Group shortlisted for EIT Digital Challenge finals
Innovation Birmingham Campus-based Breaking Free Group – creators of a pioneering digital healthcare platform targeting addictive behaviours – has been shortlisted as a finalist in one of Europe’s leading digital awards, EIT Digital Challenge.
Breaking Free Group’s team of behavioural scientists have created an evidence-based addiction treatment programme enabling people to overcome alcohol and drug dependence.
National customers include major charities in the substance misuse sector such as CGL and Turning Point, as well as NHS England who commissioned Breaking Free to deliver the world’s first online healthcare intervention in prisons in 2014.
A total of 234 start-ups from 25 EU countries applied in the following five categories: Digital Industry, Digital Cities, Digital Wellbeing, Digital Infrastructure and Digital Finance.
These companies will compete in five pitch events across five different European cities including London, Paris, Helsinki and Stockholm at the end of November.
Breaking Free Group will go head-to-head with the remaining nine Digital Wellbeing category finalists at a pitch event in Eindhoven, Netherlands on November 24th in a bid to achieve international growth support by Europe’s leading open innovation network, EIT Digital.

Each of the selected finalists have an average expected 2016 revenue of € 640,000, 13 team members and have raised over € 700,000 funds to date.
