Breaking Free Group wins Digital Health Innovation award
Innovation Birmingham Campus-based Breaking Free Group – creators of a pioneering digital healthcare platform targeting addictive behaviours – has been awarded the Digital Health Innovation Award by the West Midland Academic Heath Science Network (WMAHSN) at their annual Celebration of Innovation Awards.
Breaking Free Group created the world’s first online healthcare intervention programme in prisons, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and NHS England.
The product, Breaking Free Health & Justice, is an evidence-based addiction treatment programme enabling people to overcome alcohol and drug dependence.
The WMAHSN leads, catalyses and drives co-operation, collaboration and productivity between the public and private sectors and accelerates the adoption of innovation to generate continuous improvement in the region’s health and wealth.
Breaking Free Group were presented the Digital Health award at WMAHSN’s annual stakeholder event at Warwick Conferences on Thursday 30th June 2016, following an extensive written application process which demonstrated key measures including stage of development, return on investment and benefits to the West Midlands’ economy.
This award complements the company’s ongoing mission to tap into the rapidly growing digital health market; using its web-based treatment programme to support existing healthcare services in the public and charity sectors.
Clive Bawden, Commercial Director of Breaking Free Group, said:
“Winning this award from the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network is another mark of validation for the innovation and commercial success of our substance misuse treatment engine.
“With significant changes underfoot in the commissioning environment surrounding substance misuse treatment options, we believe we are ideally placed for what lies ahead, both in the UK and further afield.”
Breaking Free Group is one of 18 start-ups receiving support from Innovation Birmingham’s e4f Inspire programme, which delivers a series of workshops, keynote events, entrepreneur dinners, off-site visits, funded internship/apprenticeship placements, and peer group sessions, in order to accelerate the growth of entrepreneurial tech companies.
