- Public welcome to attend on Friday, 10 February, 13:00–14:00.
Sporting business success story and commercial banking expert Derek Brewer is to hold a free talk at Aston University sharing wisdom from his remarkable career.
Following seven years at the helm of Nottinghamshire Country Cricket Club, Brewer is now the 15th Chief Executive & Secretary of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in London.
Brewer graduated from Aston University with a degree in Business Studies in 1981. Since then he had a 24-year career in banking and was a Regional Director of Commercial Banking at NatWest, before joining Nottinghamshire in 2005.
As well as running things off the pitch, Brewer had a successful time on the pitch – playing for Warwickshire’s 2nd XI, representing British universities, and captaining Berkshire under-19s. He has been a member of MCC since 1976.
At MCC he has overseen the successful hosting of the 2012 Olympic Archery Competition at Lord’s, established a pioneering Local-to-Lord’s community programme and directed the Club’s Masterplan for widespread upgrade to facilities at the Home of Cricket – with the redevelopment of the new Warner Stand commencing in September 2015.
He also masterminded the celebrations of the Lord’s Bicentenary in 2014 and has administered some memorable matches, including two England v. Australia Test Matches with contrasting results.
Brewer will be sharing his wealth of knowledge on commercial banking and leading sporting businesses and taking audience questions in the Susan Cadbury Lecture Theatre at Aston Business School on Friday, 10 February at 13:00–14:00.
