Economics has long been known as the ‘dismal science’. Economists, including academic economists, were particularly criticised in light of the financial crisis 2007 onwards. Further, how economics is taught across universities has been very publicly challenged. This talk will suggest why there are grounds for optimism, both in terms of research being conducted and how economics is taught in higher education.
