Creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight joins the Midlands Engine team at MIPIM as the region takes more delegates than ever before to the world’s largest real estate show.
The man behind the hit television crime drama based on the Peaky Blinders gang, operating in Birmingham, is part of the team showcasing £14 billion worth of investment opportunities in the Midlands.
Knight who grew up in Birmingham, has joined 50 private and public sector partners representing the Midlands, including the Department for International Trade, transport hubs Birmingham Airport and East Midlands Airport, automotive giant Jaguar Land Rover and the Midlands Enterprise Universities group.
The region has taken more delegates than ever before to MIPIM – signifying growing confidence in infrastructure projects.
Over 50 events – featuring nearly 100 presenters and panellists – are taking place at the Midlands UK Pavilion, more than any other delegation from the UK. Combined, these events are expected to attract thousands of delegates.
Last year, the director indicated that he is working on opening two film studios in Birmingham.
Steven Knight said:
“It’s an incredibly exciting time in the Midlands, and I’m glad to be part of this excellent team displaying the potential of the region. My parents grew up in Small Heath in the 1920s, which is the real inspiration behind Peaky Blinders and I’m proud to say that we’ve come a long way in the past few years and are growing faster than any other region.
“MIPIM is a great opportunity to demonstrate the depth of potential we have in the Midlands and I’m honoured to be here today telling industry leaders about the fantastic opportunities available in the region.”
Nick Payne, Managing Director at Nikal said:
“It’s a great privilege to be working alongside Steven under our newly formed joint venture, Mercian International.
“He brings creativity, foresight and boundless enthusiasm for Birmingham and the Midlands and I am looking forward very much to delivering his plans and vision for a global film and TV studio in the region.”
