Hot list of city entrepreneurs line up to inspire fledgling firms this summer

A brand new Summer start-up event will see Birmingham’s business glitterati sharing their secrets of success with hot entrepreneurs looking for inspiration and practical tips.

Summer Start-up Saturday is a day-long programme to that will give small city firms the best chance of taking their business to the next level.

Held at Birmingham City University’s Curzon Building in Cardigan Street on Saturday June 9, the event is a collaboration between small business support network Enterprise Nation and BCU Advantage.

Birmingham-based gym clothing firm Gymshark will be taking centre stage. Its CEO Steve Hewitt will be talking about how the firm, named by the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100 as Britain’s fastest-growing company, grew profits to £100m and boosted sales using Instagram reaching 2m+ followers.

The day will be opened by Lee Wilcox the co-founder and CEO of On The Tools and Midlands Natwest Great British Entrepreneur 2017. In the space of three years On The Tools has become the largest online construction community in the UK. In the past 12 months, the team has grown from 6 to 24, Lee will share his story of the highs and lows of his journey so far.

The list of top entrepreneurs speaking also includes award-winning city resident Mike Bandar, co-founder of global Instagram scheduling tech firm Hopper HQ and Turn Partners who will be interviewing Phil Neale, founder of alarm clock app Snoozle.

He will be joined by branding expert Naeem Alvi, founder and MD of Birmingham-based Notepad Studios, Tara Tomes, founder of PR firm East Village and award-winning entrepreneur Joel Blake OBE, a passionate start-up champion and leadership and mindset strategist. There is also an opportunity to hear from some of the social enterprises that have contributed to Birmingham receiving the accolade of Social Enterprise City Status.

The day starts at 9.30am and finishes at 5pm and will also offer practical tips on how to navigate social media algorithms, how to ensure rapid financial growth, improve sales techniques and do your own PR.

“It’s been such a long, hard slog through the winter for everyone, but as the weather improves, it’s time to inject some of that sunny enthusiasm and optimism into businesses to help firms to grow and reach the next level in their start-up life.”
