Mailbox posts strong sales growth

The co-owners of the Birmingham Mailbox, Milligan and Brockton Capital, have announced significant sales growth for the last six months of 2017.

With the estate now 95% let and a number of those new tenants expanding the range of offerings in the Mailbox, Melanie Taylor, head of leasing for Milligan said that this showed the “final steps of our vision coming to fruition”.

She added: “We have reshaped the retail mix to provide even greater choice and compelling reasons to visit, which has had a significant positive impact on both sales and footfall.”

Sales for the last six months of 2017 were up by 15% against the same period in 2016, while footfall across the Mailbox was up 11% which compared well with a drop of 5% for the rest of the Birmingham city centre.

This is at a time when the high street retail sector is facing significant challenges from online shopping.

The improved performance is not confined to the retail offer. The Mailbox is also attracting new tenants, including WSP, a major engineering consulting firm.

Alex Wright, associate director of Brockton Capital said that the deal would “see WSP occupy up to 55,00 sq ft of newly refurbished Grade A office space for its new 700 person West Midlands regional headquarters”.
