Melissa Snover wins 2017 Start-Up Entrepreneur of the Year
On Thursday night (16th November) Melissa Snover, founder and Managing Director of Katjes Magic Candy Factory, was awarded the 2017 Start-up Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the prestigious NatWest Great British Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The glitzy evening, which celebrated inspirational and successful entrepreneurs from across a huge range of industries, was held at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. Hundreds of entrepreneurs had been nominated and a fine selection made it to the shortlist of eleven categories, which varied from family businesses to young entrepreneurs. Melissa’s category had some extremely impressive competition, for whom she 3D printed their logos in Magic Candy before the awards!
Melissa has been running her own businesses in the UK for 15 years and is recognised by her peers as a leading innovator in the food technology industry. She developed the world’s first 3D printer for food to reach the consumer market and founded Katjes Magic Candy Factory in 2015. In just less than 24 months she has launched her ground-breaking 3D printers in retail outlets across the USA, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and New Zealand. Her 3D printers make customised candy such as logos, selfies, messages and shapes using delicious vegan and allergen free ingredients, with each candy taking just 5 minutes to print. From their HQ in the Custard Factory, Birmingham, Melissa and her small team of ‘magicians’ have also spread their magic at events all over the world, including Nerd HQ in San Diego and Heidi Klum’s Halloween party in New York.
Melissa works tirelessly to achieve her dreams, constantly working 16-hour days, travelling all over the world and sacrificing her personal life to reach her goals. Melissa is an inspiration for all those around her, and has an abundance of skills and experience which can clearly be seen throughout her fruitful career. Having just launched across 7 John Lewis stores in their home market of the UK for Christmas, this respected award comes at the perfect time to recognise Melissa’s hard work and vision. Melissa is incredibly proud to run her start-up from Birmingham, and to be celebrated by NatWest GBEA amongst so many impressive contemporaries in the Midlands is certainly a highlight of her successful career.
